If you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan or a Part D prescription drug plan you will want to keep your eyes peeled for your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) that will be arriving in your mailbox sometime before the end of September. An ANOC is a notice that health plans send to their members every year to notify them of any cost, benefit or service area changes that will take effect on January 1st of the following year.

Your Annual Notice of Change can help you to decide whether or not your current coverage will continue to meet your health and prescription drug needs. Even the smallest of plan changes can make a huge difference when it comes to cost and coverage. You should review all changes carefully to ensure that needed services and prescription drugs will still be covered. If they are not, you may want to consider switching to a different MA and/or Part D plan. 

Even if your plan does not make any significant changes, it is still worth comparing your current coverage to other Medicare plans during the upcoming Annual Election Period. This Annual Election period takes place from October 15th to December 7th every year. Outside of the Annual Election Period there are limited opportunities to make changes to your coverage unless you were to qualify for a Special Election Period (SEP). 

Here are some of the changes you are able to make during AEP:

• Change to a Medicare Advantage plan from Original Medicare
• Change from a Medicare Advantage Plan to Original Medicare
• Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
• Enroll in a Part D prescription drug plan
• Change from one Medicare prescription drug coverage to another
